Union Budget 2023: Only a few months are left for the country’s next budget to come. In such a situation, many big announcements can be made by the government in the Union Budget for the common citizens. To give relief to the common citizens, the government can make changes in tax exemption, benefits of schemes and some new rules. Meanwhile, it is also discussed that all the governments can increase the subsidy given under the Ujjwala Yojana (PM Ujjwala Yojana) on cooking gas.

The government currently gives subsidy (LPG Gas Subsidy) every month on 12 cylinders of the year under the Ujjwala scheme. People are given a subsidy of Rs 200 on every LPG cylinder. Now it is being said to increase it in the next financial year. Live Mint has informed quoting official sources that the government may extend the Ujjwala scheme beyond March 2023 to meet the 100 percent LPG coverage target.

9 crore people got benefit

To reduce the inflationary pressure in May 2021, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a subsidy of Rs 200 on 12 gas cylinders. More than 9 crore people are given benefits under this scheme. The estimated expenditure for the current financial year under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana is Rs 6,100 crore.

Government’s plan regarding Ujjwala scheme

The report said that one of the two officials said that the Finance Ministry may extend it for another financial year. Along with this, the scheme will also be continued, so that all people can get the benefit of this scheme. This scheme provides financial assistance of Rs 1,600 to the people coming below the poverty line for taking LPG gas connection. Along with this, free refill and stove are also given. The government wants to strengthen this scheme further in North India.

It is noteworthy that Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana was introduced in 2016 and Ujjwala 2.0 was launched on 10 August 2021, with the aim of reaching out to the families left out in the first phase.
